Coaching Staff

Varsity Head Coach: Kevin McKenzie

A native of St. Paul, Coach McKenzie graduated from Como Park High School in 1997 where he participated in basketball, football and tennis. He spent the next four years earning his B.A. degree in Communications at Hamline University while playing for the Men's Basketball Team. McKenzie then joined Hamline University's coaching staff for three years. He moved to Henry Sibley in 2004 with Tom Dasovich and worked to help build what eventually turned into one of the best programs in the state. In 2005 he was given the opportunity to join Coach Monson's staff at the University of Minnesota as the Video and Film Coach. While at the U of M he obtained his Masters of Education in Applied Kinesiology. After a short stint at Fridley High School as an assistant coach he was hired as the Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at St. Paul Academy and Summit School in 2008.

Coach McKenzie works as the Assistant Director at MN Transitions Charter High School during the day. He is married to Kate McKenzie, a Physician Assistant for U of M Physicians. They have two sons, Michael and Adnrew

Assistant Varsity Coach: Jim McVeety

Coach McVeety has been coaching and teaching for more than thirty years. He's been an assistant varsity  coach at SPA for twelve of those thirty years. He has two sons who participated in the basketball program at SPA which allowed him to actively take part in their experience. Jim is extremely passionate about the game of basketball and is even more passionate about St. Paul Academy and Summit School.

Assistant Varsity Coach : Joel Hanson




Junior Varsity Coach: Jack Perkins



Jack Perkins was born in Memphis, Tennessee and grew up in the State of Oklahoma. He played basketball for Oklahoma State University; coached throughout Oklahoma and Texas since 1979; and, served as Athletic Coordinator for a 6A High School. Mr. Perkins served as the Assistant Coach on two State Championship teams; received the honor of Conference Coach of the Year on two occasions during Head Coach tenures, and served in higher education as a Coordinator for Recreation and Adult Education.

Mr. Perkins is an avid Duke fan and March Madness is one of his family’s favorite times of year. He had the opportunity to serve as President of the local Youth Basketball Association for four years while coaching two of his children’s teams. He believes that in many ways sports is a microcosm of life and an excellent vehicle to teach leadership, service, and teamwork to young people.

Mr. Perkins has spent time volunteering for non-profits in the area of fundraising and organizational development and currently serves on a National Advisory Council for PetSmart Charities. His wife, Karina, was recently appointed as Executive Director for Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota and is a native of Winona. Jack and Karina relocated to Saint Paul in May of 2011.
