We had a solid summer, some guys built on progress they made last winter and some guys got some much needed experience playing vs Varsity competition. From June 1-July 31 we had 15 individual training sessions & open gyms, our summer team played at least 19 games. We finished 11 out of 24 teams in our summer league, which was actually not to bad since we never had our full group of guys playing together. We didn't do as well in our tournament play but gained some good experience playing tough team such as St. Paul Johnson and Henry Sibley. It's always a battle competing with baseball, jobs and vacation but I thought our guys did a pretty good job this summer placing basketball as a top priority. I can honestly say for the first time since I've been at SPA that if guys weren't at the gym this summer they were being productive doing something else. We WILL see positive results from the hard work this winter!
I want to give credit to Josh Gray (11) Connor Allen (10) Jeron Marini (11) Steven Olsen (11) Daniel Foussard (12) for making almost every open gym and game this summer. Dalante Peyton (8) also spent tons of time getting better participating on 3 teams and going down to Duke for a camp, he also participated in the MYAS all star games for his grade level. We had some other guys who worked hard and showed improvement but these 6 really went above and beyond this summer.
We also made a new hires this summer, Trey Altenhofen (Asst Varsity ) He will be a great additions to the coaching staff.
The majority of guys now move into their Fall sport but we will resume lifting and open gym right away in Sep. November can't come soon enough!
