We ended up winning the Mounds Park Academy Holiday Tournament this past week. We played Providence Academy on Tuesday 12/22 and won 73-50. We had moments in which we played prefect basketball but got a little too confident and let Providence back into the game towards the end of the first half. I thought we played hard and shared the ball, we gave up a few more points than we should have but the result was positive. Evan McMillan lead us with 13 pts and 17 rebs, David McVeety chipped in with 24 pts.
We played Lions Gate in the Championship after they beat Mounds Park Academy on Tuesday. We beat them 66-33 and played our best game of the year. We executed defensively, played as a team and worked extremely hard for 36 minutes. Evan McMillan lead us again with 25 pts and 13 rebs. Santano Rosario ended the tournament with 13 assts and only 2 TO.
We were definitely favored to win this tournament and that's what we did. In all honesty SPA doesn't have tons of first place basketball trophies lying around from recent years so it was good to bring one home. I wasn't so much pleased with the wins but more how we won. The guys took nothing for granted and we played with intensity throughout the tournament. It was also nice to get some of the guys who don't get to play much more time on the court. Everyone was routing for those guys to play well and it was a nice experience.
We don't play again until Jan 8 vs. Breck.
