I took a couple weeks off to evaluate the season and think about something other than basketball. My father informed me that he's waiting for the season recap so here we go.
C Squad:
The C squad had an up and down season. When they played with energy they looked like a very good team, when they played flat they struggled. They finished with a 7-13 record and played competitively in the majority of their games averaging 37.6 pts and giving up 39.7 a game. Everyone on the team got extended minutes and everyone improved. They definitely made some huge improvements as the season went on.
JV:
The JV actually played better than their record would indicate. They had trouble scoring at times but didn't allow their lack of offense to interfere with their effort and defense. The JV ended with a 4-18 record averaging 33.4 pts and giving up 42.5 per game. When they decided to start playing SPA defense they were a tough team to score against and had the lead going into half a lot of the time. We are looking for these guys to work hard this summer so they are ready for Varsity next year!
Varsity:
We ended up with a 16-12 record 9-7 in conference and made it all the way to the Sub Section Championship. We averaged 56.2 pts and gave up 52.7 pts per game. We ranked third out of twelve teams defensively in our conference behind De La Salle (51.4) and Minnehaha (52.5) and ranked second in our section behind Minnehaha. We stressed defense, rebounding and taking care of the ball all year and the guys improved in all three categories from last year. Our leaders got better as the season went on and the rest of the team followed, attitudes couldn't have been better. The team was rewarded for their hard work with a pretty successful end of the season, winning 11 of our last 15 games. The highlight of the season for me came on senior night when all the seniors got to play significant minutes and we played our most complete game of the year. I also thoroughly enjoyed our section win vs Concordia Academy (Maybe the best basketball experience of my life).
We had some good individual accomplishments this year:
Evan McMillan- 1st team all conference for the 3 straight year- all state honorable mention
Santano Rosario- 1st team all conference for the 3 straight year
David McVeety- 2nd team all conference
Harry Whitaker- all conference honorable mention
Spencer Egly- all conference honorable mention
We have our Banquet on April 18 and I will announce team awards at that time.
I will continue to post throughout the summer to update everyone on our summer team and how things progress during the off season. Thanks for your support
